A graphical reconstruction (in a similar way as in WIRED) of a collision registered in the DELPHI detector during 1999. The particle tracks have been grouped into two jets (green and red tracks respectively). The two black arrows indicate the direction of the momenta of the two jets. The registered energy of this collision was less than expected, the blue arrow shows the direction of the missing momentum. This indicates that one or more neutrinos have left the detector.

The signature of this collision matches the expectations of a collision with a Higgs particle created together with a Z particle that decays into two neutrinos. For the search of the Higgs particle, this was one of the most interesting collisions registered in the DELPHI detector during 1999. But a more detailed examination showed that this collision probably was due to two Z-particles without any Higgs particle being involved.
