The Vertex detector, the track detector closest to the beam pipe in the DELPHI detector. Half of the detector has been removed so that the interior of the cylindrical shaped detector is visible. The radius of the outer layer is about 10 cm. The rectangular plates in the centre are made of silicon that can detect charged particles.
