Z Decaying to muons
-
The electron and positron beams collide in the
centre of the detector
-
A Z particle is produced (at rest)
-
The Z particle immediately decays into two muons
-
Each muon leaves a charged track in the tracking
chamber (red)
-
Muons do not leave very much energy in either
the electromagnetic (green) or hadronic (yellow) calorimeters
-
The position where the the muons exit the detector
is indicated by dedicated muon chambers (blue)
