A bubble chamber picture of a particle reaction in which two neutral strange particles, a K0 and a L0 are produced when a negatively charged pi-meson (p-) collides with a proton. The fact that strange particles were produced in pairs led to the assumption that a new quark, the s-quark or strange quark and its antiparticle were created. The K0 and the L0 are particles containing s-quarks.
