Momentum Components
Momentum is a vector quantity.  It has both size and direction.  Any vector can be considered to be the result of adding together two or more other vectors.  It is often useful to resolve a vector into just two components that lie along directions which lie at right angles to each other.  If you pick these directions carefully (e.g. vertical and horizontal) then you can greatly simplify many problems.

The size of the components can be found by using standard trigonometry.  The size of the resultant vector can be found by applying Pythagoras' theorem to its components.
