An electron loses all of its energy in the electromagnetic calorimeter. This has two consequences that allow us to identify electrons:

• The momentum of the observed charged particle track should be similar to the energy observed where is strikes the electromagnetic calorimeter. (Therefore the track and the cluster of energy in the electromagnetic calorimeter should usually be drawn in the same colour.)
• The electron does not produce an energy deposit in the hadronic calorimeter or signals in the muon chambers.
