The Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) was founded in the year 1847. Its mission is to promote science of all fields, in particular fundamental science. The ÖAW (about 600 Austrian and international scientists) is one of the leading research institutions in addition to the universities.
The staff of the Institute for High Energy Physics (HEPHY) amounts to 55 people of whom 37 have an academic degree in physics, mathematics, computing or engineering. Main focus of the work of the institute is on data analysis, algorithms & software development, theory as well as 2 divisions of electronics development (elektronics I, elektronics II). The institute offers a variety of lectures and practica at the Technical University of Vienna (TU Wien).
