The Kirchhoff-Institute of Physics (KIP) of the
Heidelberg University has been founded by merging
the former Institute for Applied Physics and the IHEP, the Institute of High Energy
Physics. Since October 2002 the new Institute resides in the first building of the
new physics complex in the Neuenheimer Feld.
The Institute ist part of the Department of Physics and Astronomie; it's main purpose
are research and teaching in the field of physics and information technology.
The research activites are focussed on
Bio- physics (Exp I), Solid State Physics
(Exp II), Particle Physics (Exp III)
as well as Infor- mation Technology.
Studying Physics in Heidelberg offers a variety of lectures and lab courses with a broad
range of opportunities for specia- lization. Advanced undergraduate as well as graduate lectures
are also given in english language, e.g. within the two
'Graduate Schools'
of the Department of Physics and Astronomie and the
Heidelberger Graduier- tentagen wich are organized twice
a year.
