The Institute of Nuclear Physics
is working within the
National Research Center Demokritos
Research:
1. Particle_Physics
2. Nuclear_Physics
3. Astrophysics-Cosmology
4. Experimental_Techniques
5. Grid
Teaching:
The Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) participates in the graduate education for the acquisition of a Master and Ph.D. degrees in the fields of Nuclear and Particle Physics, in collaboration with Universities in Greece and abroad. The graduate students are being supervised by Research Scientists of INP.
The Institute of Nuclear Physics offers graduate courses for a Master Degree in collaboration with the Institute of Material Sciences and the ΣΕΜΦΕ department of the Athens Polytechnic University. The courses are a prerequisite to continue for a Ph.D. degree in the above scientific fields.
The experimental group on High Energy Physics is mainly engaged in the
CMS/LHC
experiment at
CERN.
It is responsible for the construction of a
substantial part of the preshower detector and
the design and construction of subsystems for the
Trigger and Data Acquisition system. Members
of the group are contributing to the
CAST
experiment at CERN. The theoretical group activities involves calculations of probabilities for interactions between elementary particles while the research efforts span from phenomenology to Unified Theories.
