The Frascati Laboratories (INFN - LNF), founded in the mid-1950’s, are the largest of the Institute’s four
laboratory facilities. The primary activity at Frascati during the last few years has been the construction of DAFNE, an electron-positron collider.
DAFNE is an intense source of K-mesons, particles which contain an s quark, and represents a new generation of colliders dedicated to the
study of rare phenomena.
Three experiments make use of the accelerator’s potential: KLOE, FINUDA, and DEAR.
DAFNE also produces two intense beams of light (synchrotron light) in the infrared and X-ray regions, which are very useful in the study of molecular and
condensed-matter physics.
The Laboratories are also involved in the experimental search for gravitational waves using an extremely sophisticated instrument: the ultracryogenic resonant antenna NAUTILUS. |
